Got problem with your toilet paper?

I got back my laptop 2 days ago and able to check back all my datas in it. I read back my previous assignment and it makes me laught till the end. I asked myself: how can I make such a funny assignment?

The subject is Critical and Creative Thinking. One of the group assignments is to find a problem that occurs in our University and solve it. This was what I did:

Install Toilet Paper??

In our University, there is a problem that encounter by all of the students here but it was not concern by the MPP and it has never become an issue. The problem is a tiny problem unless when the student has emergency and he or she needs the supply. What is this problem? It’s the toilet paper problem!

The cleaner in our University rarely put toilet papers in the toilet. There’re maybe few factors as stated as below:

(a) Since economy is still on the way down, University is cutting cost, and they start with the toilet facility.
(b)
Every time when cleaner put toilet paper in the toilet, student steal it, hence they rather not to put it.

After some discussion, we have come out with some solutions as below:
(i) Student bring tissues supply themselves.
Description:
Since University cannot provide us tissue, we have to bring ourselves the supply.
Advantages:
@Help University to cut cost.
@Will not need to study in fear as when will the emergency comes, we already have supply

Disadvantages:
@Troublesome to bring toilet paper in roll.
@
Not encourage to use facial tissue as it contain tale dust that not only cause lung problem but also ovary cancer.
@Not hygiene as the toilet paper have contact a lot of places and it might contains gems.

(ii) Put extra toilet papers in toilet.
Description:
When we have extras supply, we wouldn’t fear to not having enough supply to be use, hence no student will steal because it seems cheap and always have enough supply when it is needed

(iii) Auto detects toilet paper provider system.
Description:
This is a system that cans automatic supply toilet paper to the toilet user each time they use the toilet. The University can set the toilet paper’s quote so that when each time the toilet door is close, it will starts a new count. After the user finish using the toilet, i.e. flush and open the door, the system will reset the counter.
Advantages:
@
Can save a lot of paper because it teaches student how hard to get some tissues, and hence appreciate them. When student decrease the paper use, it will eventually save the earth by cutting less tree to become paper and less energy is need to reprocess used paper to become toilet paper.
Disadvantages:
@Easy to be malfunction due to wet atmosphere and easy contact to water since it is plead inside a toilet.
@
Will not function when it is no electricity.
@
The defective can cause student don’t have toilet paper at all.

(iv)Mechanical toilet paper provider
Description:
Since electronic device is not suitable in a wet place and only function if there is electricity, then we will change the mechanism of the toilet paper provider to become mechanical.
Advantages:
@Will work whether there are electricity or not, plus having the advantage of a electronic auto detect that is save cost and environment friendly.
@
Do not fear of water, so will not easily spoil.
Disadvantages:
@
This kind of machine is tedious to design and hard to maintain. It needs skillful engineer for maintenances.

(v)Student identifier toilet paper provider.
Description:
All students have their own student card, but this student card is not useful in our campus life. Although we need to tag our student card before going into a lecture room, lecturer still take attendance manually due to defective system. Thus, the only time we need to use our student card is when we have our entertainment. Student will get 10% discount on selected cinemas and some restaurant provide student price for selected menus. This situation does not show the importance of our student card and creating a student card for student seems to be a waste. With the system introduce, this situation can have a twist. In this system, University can set a quote to each student, how much toilet paper they can use each month or week depends to the University right to set. Student will be remind on how much toilet paper they left each time when they activate their account in the system. It works just like the photocopying machine! When student over use their quote, the University can choose to terminate the supply or supply with rules. University can state the rule whether to cut from the oncoming month or charge from them money.

Advantages:
@
Under this system, the computer department has to maintain the system so that it will not cause problem to student. This can urge them to perform better. Since the whole campus have attendance tag system, it will be easy to connect the system to the toilet too. When there are so many rules bounded to the student, they will learn to be more discipline plus gaining the moral value of not stealing things. Just like the auto detect system, it is environment friendly
Disadvantages:
@
Whenever the networking have problem, student will not have any toilet paper supply. Not like the toilet paper provider, it can’t be converting into a mechanical system since it needs electronic devices to identify the cards owner, hence its function will be affected by water causing malfunction. It is also hard to determine the quota since every person needs different amounts of toilet paper each month/week.

(vi) Organize a forum of workshop on “How to go to toilet without using toilet paper”.
Description:
Since the University is so stingy on controlling toilet paper usage, the most exciting news for the University is to hear from students that they will not use any toilet paper. As we live in a country that has most Muslim citizen, most toilets are provided water tape inside each cubicle. Muslim uses water and their hands to wash their under part after their affair, but for most other religion, they are still not used to it.
Advantages:
@
Terminate toilet paper usage in the future, so no toilet paper will be needed. More earth friendly than toilet paper provider. Girls do not need to expose to the danger of talc dust that can cause ovary cancer
Disadvantages:
@
Non-Muslim will feel uneasy to this idea. Whenever there is no water supply, they might cause difficulties to non-Muslim.

(vii) Automated robot cleaning system.
Description:
As technology takes us further every day, application of technology to daily life make us more comfortable. In Japan, their technology and hygienic nature have made them a pioneer in toilet technology. In Japan, most shopping center’s toilets have a series and name. The toilet is so high tech that it needs a specific series name to identify the toilet just as common as a mobile phone’s series number. These technologies allow people to go to toilet in a hygienic way. They have a cleaning system to help u take care of everything from washing, drying, deodorizing and perfuming. We might not need such a high technology in our campus but a few functions of the toilet can be adopted and introduce here.
Advantages:
@
You do not need to touch your down part to get it cleaned. It is hygienic and easy. Most suitable for lazy people.
Disadvantages:
@
It is so high tech that it has not been introduced in Malaysia. It is tedious to design and program since men and women have different anatomy structure. It might do the wrong thing or press the wrong part.

(viii) Toilet paper detector security alarm.
Description:
To avoid students from stealing the toilet paper out of the toilet. University may introduce a service called the toilet paper detector security system. It works just like the alarm at most CD shops, stationary shops and pharmacy. Bar code is stick to the inner part of the toilet paper roll so when it bring across the detector, the alarm will ring. When other students realize it, the student will feel embarrassed and will put it back.
Advantages:
@
This system is quite common these days. As it is economically affordable, it has been applied to commercial use. The bar codes can be applied to most things in the toilet such as bar soap, liquid hand washer bottle and so on. Students will still get toilet paper supply in case of no electricity or no water supply.
Disadvantages:
@
The system is quite sensitive. If the student card’s barcode is having the same frequency (same channel) as the barcodes, the system will rings. As it rings, it will create noise and cause sound pollution.

As a result of research and consideration, we decided that the Toilet paper detector security alarm is the best way to solve the insufficient toilet paper problem. It detects any item that University wants to quota. Such an alarm system is not easy for us to design, but for electronic faculty’s forth year student, it will be as easy as a piece of cake. PSM supervisor can encourage their student to design such a system for the University. On the other hand, forum and workshop as stated above can also be carry out at the same time to increase the effectiveness for solving the problem.

Comment: oklah, It shouldn't be so bad coz I will be scoring A- for this subject (in the preposting list). You can always use the idea in it, I don't mind.
